University teacher training rated first class by Ofsted
update：2011/10/22 (Sat)The University of Chichester has been graded as ‘outstanding’ for its provision of both primary and secondary teacher training following an OFSTED inspection last month.
During the inspection over 30 schools were visited by the OFSTED inspection team. They observed classes taken by trainees as well as interviewing ex-trainees, mentors, professional tutors and head teachers.
The Inspectors Report published this week, particularly commends the ‘very strong leadership team’, the ‘strength of partnership with schools’ and the ‘high quality professional training’.
Each year approximately 450 teachers graduate from the University and a majority go on to work in schools in the region. The University is the third largest provider of PE secondary teacher training in the UK. In addition, 43 students are taking the employment-based Graduate Teacher Programme, a relatively new approach to teacher training. This innovative part of the provision was graded ‘Good’. Professor Clive Behagg, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chichester, said: “I am delighted with the outcome of this inspection. We have been producing first class teachers for this region for many years and now we have gained the recognition we deserve thanks to a superb partnership with primary and secondary schools, expert tutors and wonderfully dedicated students. The public is right to ask whether higher education courses are value for money – this inspection shows that for Chichester’s Teacher Education programmes the answer is ‘yes, outstandingly so!’.”

Chichester continues to rank highly in the 2007 National Student Survey which rates student satisfaction with their university courses. For the third year since the survey was launched Chichester can be proud of its success. The aim of the survey is to gather feedback on the quality of students' courses in order to contribute to public accountability as well as to help inform the choices of future applicants to higher education.
Chichester places great emphasis on its high quality teaching, friendly atmosphere and supportive environment, and all of the staff were delighted to see these efforts rewarded in such positive feedback from its students in this latest survey.

The satisfaction score is an overall measure of the ratings provided by students in the National Student Survey. It is an institutional average of the scores received for 21 questions. Students rated teaching, assessment, learning support, organisation and resources at their universities, as well as their personal development as a result of their course.

児童英語教師（小学校・プリスクール英語指導）

この通信大学プログラムにおいて、教科の一つＰｒａｃｔｉｃａｌ Ｔｅａｃｈｉｎｇでは、各受講者が小学校・幼稚園で行っておられる早期児童英語教育の現場指導での経験のエッセイ提出とプレゼンテーション模擬授業をしていただきます。 「エッセイ」は英語で１５００ワード〜３０００ワードで、大学に提出後、第１・第２採点者の平均点がメールでコメントと会わせ生徒個々に返信されます。 また、「プレゼンテーション模擬授業」に対しては大学講師から評価・コメントをもらいますので、現場で大いに役立てていただけます。また小学校での英語教育の重要な要素である国際理解教育（Ｇｒｏｂａｌ Ｅｄｕｃａｔｉｏｎ）もこのコースの教科に含まれています。幼児英語教育の基本教科には、ＤＩＰＬＯＭＡ英語教授法が有効です。
